Navigating the Journey: Social Anxiety Disorder. Understanding Anxiety and Stress with Brideswell Counselling
Social Anxiety Disorder, often referred to as social phobia, is an intense anxiety that frequently includes a fear of being judged negatively or rejected in a social or performance situation. They may worry about acting or appearing visibly anxious, such as blushing or being viewed as stupid, awkward, or boring. Consequently, they often avoid social or performance situations. Sometimes, they may also experience physical symptoms, such as a rapid heart rate or nausea, when anticipating or confronting a feared situation. While they recognize their fears as excessive, people with social anxiety disorder often feel powerless against their anxiety.

Treatment involves a process of Desensitisation. That is getting out of your comfort zone by slowly and gradually exposing yourself to the feared aspect in small increments.
Treatment also includes Cognitive Behavioural and other cognitive skills.
Self-affirmations can also help rewire one's thought processes.
